Volunteer Opportunities at STEP

Looking for a meaningful way to give back to the St. Louis Park community? Join our volunteer team! Every week, over 100 dedicated volunteers help serve our neighbors by answering phones, assisting clients, stocking shelves, and managing donations. Whether you’re looking for a weekly volunteer role or a group project, we have so many different ways for you to help!

*Please note: You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer at STEP.

Weekly Individual Volunteering

By committing to a weekly, 4-hour volunteer shift during STEP’s office hours, you can impact local families’ lives.

We have a variety of roles available to match different skills and interests:

  • Front Lobby & Phone Reception: Be the welcoming face and voice of STEP! Greet visitors, answer calls, and assist clients with questions.
  • Food Shelf & Clothes Closet: Help clients navigate the food and clothing areas, ensuring they have a positive shopping experience.
  • Warehouse & Donation Management: Sort and process donations, stock shelves, and help keep our food shelf organized. These roles require being on your feet for most of the shift and lifting at least 10 lbs.

If interested in volunteering, please complete STEP’s Volunteer Application here. Please contact Annie Crepeau with any questions concerning our volunteer program.

GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Looking for a way to bring your team together? Thanks to the many group volunteers who join us each year, STEP can keep our special programs running smoothly, and our “to-do” list under control!

Past group projects have included:

  • School Supply Collections: Help local students start the year off right! Join us in July or August to pack supply bags and keep our inventory in check.
  • Coat Drives: Keep families warm during Minnesota winters.
  • Food Drives: Spark some friendly competition within your team by hosting a food drive! Once you’re all collected, bring it over to stock the shelves together.
  • Birthday, Toy & Gift Card Roundups: Make special occasions brighter for our families! Join us in November and December to sort holiday toys by age and get them ready for shoppers.

Let’s make magic happen for our clients and community!

Interested in organizing a group project? Contact STEP’s volunteer coordinator at annie@stepslp.org to discuss ways your team can get involved.
