We are both happy and sad to announce the upcoming retirement of STEP’s Social Services Director, Julie Lapointe.
Julie has served as a social worker and an organization leader at STEP for more than 27 years. Her distinguished career has directly impacted thousands of lives. Each day, she has lived out how to respond to community needs with compassion and professionalism.
Julie has worked at each STEP location over the years (Brookside, Highway 7, Edgewood, and Lake Street sites). She has worked with five out of STEP’s six executive directors, and countless colleagues and volunteers. It is estimated that Julie has met with clients as a social worker over 80,000 times. She has been with STEP through all sorts of stages and challenges, from a pull-up turkey distribution that created a back-up on Highway 7, to reinviting STEP services during a global pandemic.
Julie will remain full time in her role into June. Afterwards, she has agreed to stay on in a part time capacity to aid in the transition period. Current staff will inherit Julie’s responsibilities, which will result in an opening for a full time generalist social worker position.
We look forward to celebrating Julie’s contributions and her well-earned retirement in the coming months.
